BITCHES Opens 8/7/25
BITCHES, a bold and thrilling new play by Julia Smith, directed by Maya Shore, is set to premiere at the East Village Basement from August 7-9, 2025. Featuring a dynamic cast of emerging talent, the play explores themes of power, friendship, and identity through a darkly comic lens, making it a must-see for theatergoers looking for a fresh, thought-provoking theatrical experience. Tickets available on Eventbrite.
The production stars Gabriella Anifantis, Gaia Di Mitri, Isabella Folchetti, Lydia Kelly, and Anuka Sethi, whose characters navigate the tumultuous world of high school dynamics. In BITCHES, four high school seniors—Harper, Leila, Jo, and Kelly—invite their uncool classmate Suz to a sleepover with the intention of humiliating her. When their plan takes an unexpected and dangerous turn, Suz is reluctantly pulled into their group’s shifting allegiances, secret romances, and growing violence. The play culminates in a shocking confrontation, asking: Is murder cool if everyone else is doing it?
This darkly comic, queer-friendly production promises to captivate audiences with its sharp writing and intense emotional moments. BITCHES explores the complexity of friendships and the dark side of adolescent culture, all while grappling with questions of loyalty, power, and the consequences of cruelty.
